Open That Bottle Night 2016
Open That Bottle Night – the perfect excuse to enjoy wines saved for a rainy day!
Since its inception in 2000 by two wine journalists at The Wall Street Journal — Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher — Open That Bottle Night (#OTBN) has become a global event, held annually on the last Saturday of February. This year, Open That Bottle Night is Saturday 27 February 2016.
Wine is made to be enjoyed. Viticulturalists, winemakers and vignerons slave over the detail of grape growing and winemaking so people can delight in the enjoyment of wine. So let’s do what the makers intended and put the wines on centre stage for one evening.
Open That Bottle Night is the perfect excuse to get a group of friends together at your home, over a BBQ or at a BYO restaurant, raid the cellar or visit a bottle store and share stories about the wine and about life.
Brand Amp Director Nicola McConnell notes that when she worked on the famous Penfolds Red wine Recorking Clinics the saddest thing was people coming in with a wine which was past its optimal drinking.
“Too often people put a treasured bottle of wine away for the ‘perfect occasion’. Sadly they never find that occasion and the wine matures without being enjoyed. As Penfolds Chief Winemaker Peter Gago always told people ‘opening the bottle makes the occasion’, she says.
So get a group together open and taste treasures and new wines and share your stories and thoughts over the table or via social media using the hashtag #OTBN
